Common Questions

Leinster Hurling FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first championship.

Six counties compete in the 2026 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship: Kilkenny, Galway, Dublin, Wexford, Offaly and Kildare. Notably, Galway is a Connacht county that competes in Leinster - making them the only cross-provincial team in the championship.
The trophy is called the Bob O'Keeffe Cup, named after Bob O'Keeffe who served as GAA president from 1935 to 1938. The championship itself has been contested since 1888, making it one of the oldest provincial sports competitions in the world.
Kilkenny is by far the most decorated county with 77 Leinster titles and 36 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship titles - both all-time records in the sport. (Source: GAA.ie)
The final is played at Croke Park in Dublin - the 82,300-capacity home of the GAA and one of the largest stadiums in Europe. Earlier rounds are played at each county's home ground.
There is no senior hurling championship run within Connacht province, so Galway were admitted to the Leinster competition for competitive reasons. This makes them the only cross-provincial team in the championship - adding a uniquely western energy to the eastern provinces rivalry.
